Good. Not So Good.

Good:

January 30, 2013 - 7:05 pm

Tracy - AH! But how nice is it that the only problems were little things like your fly being down and wearing pajamas out!?! Have you been to Walmart lately? Half of everyone there is in sleepwear!

January 30, 2013 - 8:34 am

pinkcoffeephoto - Pops, That’s good!!

January 29, 2013 - 10:02 pm

Pops - The best advice I ever received from an old preacher – he was asked, “Sir, what is the last thing you do before you go into the pulpit?” Expecting some great spiritual truth, everyone was shocked when he said, “Son, I check my fly ’cause if it’s down they will never hear a word you say.” Sounds like I’m not the only one who needs to heed his advice.

January 29, 2013 - 7:03 pm

pinkcoffeephoto - Ha! Ginger, I need you around all the time. :)

January 29, 2013 - 6:18 pm

Ginger - *I* am one of those people who will tell you your fly is down or that you need a Kleenex but, to be fair, it’s possible that no one’s eyes dropped that far that day. Maybe that new mascara was that effective.

Phone Table – Before & After

My parents gave us this antique phone table (I prefer the term “gossip bench!”) a few years ago. I remember it being in our home next to the phone that hung on the kitchen wall. The same phone that Kingston and his cousins are so confused by now. A phone on the wall? Ha! Anyway, when we got the table it had a wood finish, but I was going through a black furniture phase at the time. I literally spray painted all of our furniture glossy black. Yes. I know I’m going to furniture Hell for painting antiques. If this one bothers you, you do not want to see the rest of my house! Most pieces have been repainted since the black phase, and it was past time to give the “gossip bench” a little makeover. Here’s what I did:

First I spray painted it gold using Krylon Metallic Gold. I use this brand for almost all of my painting projects but had never tried the metallic. Sadly, it’s awful. I was totally bummed at the quality. I usually love Krylon because of the variety of color options but mostly because it doesn’t drip. Drippy spray paint is the worst. And this stuff was super-drippy. Consider yourself warned!

Once that horrific task was complete it still needed a little something. So I did what every stumped DIY-er does; I posted a picture on Instagram and asked for advice. I wanted to add a pop of color but wasn’t sure where. The masses came through for me and offered some great ideas. My favorite suggestion was to paint parts of the chair pink, so that’s exactly what I did. I actually used a paint brush too. I didn’t want to tape everything off (code for LAZY), so spraying wasn’t an option. But I love how it turned out!

Thanks Instagram friends! The table definitely fits into our candy-colored home better now. :)

January 31, 2013 - 4:56 pm

pinkcoffeephoto - Michelle, I’m so glad I’m not alone. :)

January 31, 2013 - 3:53 pm

Michelle - Totally posted my comment on the wrong entry, but the thoughts still stand :)

January 31, 2013 - 3:52 pm

Michelle - I feel the same way! I loved my babies being babies, but they get so much more fun as they get older. My three year old says the cutest things….and she doesn’t need diapers! Babies are supposed to grow up :) Now I know what I can look forward to as my 20 month old grows. And it’s a relief knowing the only “baby” days in my future will involve babysitting my future nieces or nephews.

Amy@PermissiontoPeruse - I love the pattern combination! Cute!

Good. Not so good.

Not-So-Good:

- Growing out bangs. I keep saying I’ll never have bangs again. Then I forget I said that. And the cycle begins again. So annoying. I’m even taking my Biotin everyday (miracle hair growth supplement!), but it just isn’t working fast enough for me this time.

- My eyesight is THE WORST. The other night Anderson and I were going to bed and we played “rock, paper, scissors” to see who had to get up with Kingston the next morning. He said he won. The problem is I couldn’t even see if he was lying. I need to have Lasik surgery behind his back just for moments like this. Once Kingston finds out I’m blind there’s no telling what he’ll get away with.

- We lose everything around this house: a new pack of razors, salsa from a takeout meal (I sniffed that one out in a few days-so GROSS), a Ziploc bag full of cheese squares and grapes, a shopping bag full of new clothes. Kingston loves to throw things away and stash them in weird places, so I think we’ll find a big pile of stuff when he moves out one day. Until then…

- An aggressive little drummer and flailing drum sticks last night = my lip all busted up.

Good:

- Anderson’s work schedule has been brutal lately. I’m not even sure when it started. More than 6 months ago. Less than a year. He probably knows the exact date. He works 3 days on; 3 days off. Sometimes days; sometimes nights. And to be honest it’s been really hard to keep a good attitude about it. It probably would’ve been easier when it was just the two of us, but now that we have a little guy it’s just a crazy balancing act. But every time I start feeling grumpy about it I remember that HE. HAS. A. JOB. A good job. And that’s huge. And the fact that he still has a job with a military contractor is pretty big too. (I promise not to go on political rants on this site, but you can draw your own conclusions about how I feel about cutting defense budgets, etc.) :) I’m so thankful for his job. And I’m thankful that when he’s off for 3 days we get to hang out (during the week sometimes!) and do things we normally wouldn’t be able to do. And I’m thankful for the people who own his company. They’ve been so good to us over the years!

- When Kingston hugs us and says, “So, so much!” It’s his version of “I love you so much!”

- Shopping at my parents’ house. My Mom and I are getting ready for a big yard sale in a few weeks, and I found a bunch of treasures at her house the other day when we were going through old stuff. It’s like shopping at my favorite flea market… for free. :)

- Cleaning out closets. You know that feeling when you go through junk and your “get rid of pile” is bigger than your “keep” pile? I love that feeling! I must say though, anyone with enough stuff for a huge yard-sale every year probably has a hoarding problem. I think it’s a result of shopping at thrift stores all the time! Of course I don’t know anyone like that.

January 21, 2013 - 2:34 pm

pinkcoffeephoto - I wish you could come too. Cause I’d make a lot of money off you – haha! jk. Anderson works for a Navy contractor. (Jax is a big Navy town). Other than that he does just play all the time. :)

January 21, 2013 - 10:46 am

annie - Those are great pictures!!!! I love them!

I wish I could come for your yard sale! I bet I could find some treasures!!!!

What does Anderson do? I assumed y’all just played and had fun all day! ;) Cause he’s always in all the pictures! But yes…PRAISE THE LORD FOR A JOB! A TO THE MEN SISTA!!!!!

January 21, 2013 - 9:57 am

pinkcoffeephoto - Ha! Jen, that does make me feel better!!!

January 21, 2013 - 9:36 am

Jennifer Higginbotham - The bang thing… will drive you nuts!! If it makes you feel any better, I find half eaten apples all over our house. Tucker is the apple bandit. I’ve found them in the bathroom, on a shelf that is often overlooked, until I deep clean, and in the toy box. Yep, good times. Yay for a Ms. Peggy & Lyndsay yard sale!!! =)

Trucks and Trunks

The circus is in town! No. Not out-of-town relatives, the real deal! Yesterday some of the Ringling Brothers Circus elephants were on display outside the arena  in downtown Jax and food trucks lined the street for lunch. Great combo right? Smelly circus animals and food! We only saw the elephants for about 2 minutes, but don’t worry I got one bad picture of them and even labeled it for you. We didn’t care, because we were really just there for the food. :)

As usual, the paparazzi wouldn’t leave us alone, so we ended up on the local paper’s website. :)
