I recently had the priviledge of shooting an event unlike anything I've ever been a part of. My friend Scarlett's dad passed away two weeks ago after a difficult battle with lung cancer, and she asked me to assist Darice Michelle in documenting his celebration (memorial service). What a celebration it was! Family and friends gathered to honor Johnny Williams in true southern style. If you walked into the service without knowing the man of honor it wouldn't take you long to find out a few things about Johnny: He loved his wife and daughter more than anything. He enjoyed history and was proud of his southern heritage. He was an avid golfer and HUGE Florida State fan, and he knew how to have a good time!
I've been to a lot of funerals but never one like this. It was truly a celebration! After the service and burial, the guests gathered for a delicious lunch of chicken, seafood and all the yummy fixings while a Blue Grass Band played.
But my favorite part of the day was at the end of the service. The pastor was talking about how when a child of God dies, it really is cause for rejoicing. He said we don't have to say goodbye, because we will see them again. Instead we should tell them, "I'll see you later!" Of all the the beautiful words spoken on this day, those were the ones that made me cry…tears of joy. It's so comforting that Johnny's family knows exactly where he is and will see him again one day. Praise God!
The service ended with a march to the grave site. Look at all of the people walking in Johnny's honor!
A horse-drawn buggy led the procession.
Scarlett and her mom, Rene, along with their pastor and Mark.
Johnny was laid to rest as his friends and family sang "Amaging Grace" and "Dixie"!
Scarlett with friends (and fellow photogs) Corinna and Bobby Hoffman.
Left-Rene. Isn't she gorgeous?! Right-Darice Michelle and Scarlett.
Left-This lady led the guests in singing. Right-One of the confederate soldiers. He actually asked me to tell him if I saw any Yankees milling around!!
Beautiful friends-Scarlett, Katie, Ginger and Kaci

Scarlett and Mark. :)
Being a daddy's girl myself, I can't imagine the pain Scarlett is experiencing right now, but I know she and her mom are clinging to God's Word for comfort and peace. Please continue to lift them up!
