’09 wppi – las vegas

It was the night before we were supposed to leave for WPPI, and I was sitting on our bedroom floor with suitcases all around me…empty suitcases. Anderson came in and looked around, obviously surprised that I hadn’t made much progress since I had been packing for over an hour. He asked what was wrong, and I burst into tears. The tears quickly turned into ugly, snotty-nosed, gasping for air crying. The worst part was that I couldn’t explain what was wrong, because I just couldn’t pin point it. In between sobs I told Anderson that I had too much going on and not enough time to do everything. I didn’t want to go to Vegas anymore, because I knew I would feel pressured to work the whole time, and all I wanted to do was relax for a few days. He listened to all the blubbering and finally said, “You’re burnt out. We’re going on this trip, but you don’t have to work at all. Let’s just have fun.” So that’s exactly what we did! I didn’t take my computer or the massive list of fab photographers I wanted to meet and network with. Instead I just took a silly book to read on the plane, and when we got to Vegas we decided to be total tourists. I dragged Anderson to see EVERYTHING. Even though we didn’t get much sleep I came home feeling refreshed and energized. Maybe next year I’ll actually take a class or two while I’m there… maybe not!

The trade show was incredible. Information overload for sure! This is me and Jessica Claire at her booth. She’s such a rockstar!

After seeing the cirque de soleil show, Ka . Waiting in line to get into Studio 54.

Me-going out. Anderson-with a statue man.

We always have really bad “staying in a hotel” etiquette. Look at that messy room!

Jen B - My favorite is the image of the two of you in the lounge under your room. I just love it. Glad to hear you decided just to relax. Vegas is one of my favorite places to do just that. I think one of the biggest things about life these days is that we just DO too much and forget to enjoy.

February 25, 2009 - 11:32 pm

Kathryn Brown - Lyndsay, I know exactly how you feel! I am so glad that you decided to ditch your "to-do" list and just have fun. Most times you get a lot more out of the experience that way and I am sure you are the better for making that decision…I am looking forward to Vegas next year and happen to be in need of a good tour guide :)

February 25, 2009 - 11:57 am

Melanie Watson - OMG… you sound just like me. I was blubbering like a baby because I didn't want to go at the very last minute. I was so bummed to be out there w/o Brad and all I wanted to do was be a tourist and not worry about networking and learning. I wish I could have done all the fun stuff you guys did. I'm jealous! Next time I'm going to take more "tourist" time… and bring Brad! ;) Thank God he is full time photography now! :) Glad you guys had fun and came home re

mark and jenny are married – sneak peak

I just love Mark and Jenny! And no, it’s not just because they own my favorite yogurt place-yogaberry! I’m drawn to them, because they are kind and truly care about each other as well as other people. When Jenny asked me to shoot their wedding I got excited. Then when she told me they were holding the reception at their gorgeous home AND were serving yogaberry for dessert, I was in! When it comes to weddings, I’m a little obsessed with two things: 1.) “behind the scenes” type images that give you a feel for the chaos, emotion and fun of the wedding day 2.) and all-things-bride. So even though I have a lot of favorite shots from the day I wanted to post a little sneak peak of some of my favorites of Jenny that fall into those two categories. More to come…

February 24, 2009 - 2:24 pm

lyndsay hyatt-almeida - thanks stefanie! haha-i want to meet her. she sounds like a girl after my own heart!!

vegas night shoot – part 1

One of the incredible photographers we met at WPPI was Justin Lee. Anderson and I both liked him instantly and appreciated all the direction and encouragement he gave us during our night shoot. I copied a few pictures from his blog but you should really go check it out to see more of his work. He’s SO GOOD! Leave him some blog love while you’re there too. Justin, you rock! I hope we get to work with you again sometime, but I’d rather be on the other side of the camera this time. :)

The madness began in the MGM lobby.

New York, New York.

Everyone kept congratulating us-it was so funny!

We look relaxed hanging in the lounge, right?

But this is what it was really like-AAAGGGHHH!

More shots in the lobby.

left: Scarlett knew I’d like the wallpaper here. right: Rock on!

The whole crew.

Mark Sweeney was also part of the photo shoot madness. He helped a lot, and somehow managed to get some cool shots too! If you aren’t completely tired of seeing pictures of my and the hubby, check out his blog for more. :) Mark, thank you for carrying our stuff around and being so helpful all night!

honey, i'm home!

We're back from our trip to Vegas, and we're exhausted! The WPPI Conference was incredible. We met a ton of talented photographers from around the world and had a great time being tourists. I haven't had time to go through the pictures we took, so in the meantime I'll post a few from Valentine's Day last week.

Oh, and I know you're all dying to see some pictures from the night shoot hosted by Scarlett Lillian that we modeled for. Okay, maybe that's just me, but I'll share an image anyway! This one was taken by the uber-talented Kate Lorrain. I'll link to some of the other photographers who "shot" us as they post their pictures in the coming weeks.

February 22, 2009 - 11:05 pm

lyndsay hyatt-almeida - thanks for the sweet comments! i bought the frame at a thrift store for $.49. :) i’m putting a few of them in the guestroom.

February 22, 2009 - 6:10 am

audrey - {img}81_12{/img} where'd you get this frame to paint? i've been looking for some cool crazy shaped ones like this.

February 21, 2009 - 2:19 pm

Beth Morgan - LOVE the frame and the image :). Ya'll are such hotties. I can not wait to see the rest!

February 20, 2009 - 6:32 pm

February 20, 2009 - 6:15 pm

Kylene Gay - It was so good to finally meet you and your hubby! Lovin the sneak peek from your modeling, can't wait to see more! Take care!

love day and a contest winner

Happy Love Day!

WARNING: The first half of this post might gross you out. If you don’t like mushy-gushy, sappy stories just skip on down to the contest video. Or else, you may throw up in your mouth a little. Okay, you’ve been warned!

After Anderson and I had been dating for awhile he started calling me a pet name, “Babe”. I didn’t like it. I had been called that before and it was just icky to me. So in my ever so subtle way I told him that I didn’t like it! Being the persistent guy that is his, he began calling me something else. I didn’t like that one either. He went through several others until he finally just called me Lyndsay for awhile. No problem with that one. Then one day out of the blue he asked me a question and called me, “Love”. I liked it, a lot! Love is one of my absolute favorite words, because to me, it means commitment.

Fast forward a few years. I’ve wanted a new tattoo for a long time. I really like tattoos! People seem to like them or think they’re trashy, and I’m on the like them side. So last December I finally decided what I wanted to get inked on my wrist forever: the word love. I asked Anderson to write it on a piece of paper, so I could have it tattooed in his handwriting. I see some of you rolling your eyes. I know, how sappy. I warned you though! People have been asking what the new tattoo is all about, so today seemed like a good time to tell you!

Okay, on to the reason you’re here today. Picking a winner for my Valentine’s Day contest was so hard! I got a ton of nominations and every one of them deserves to win. Thank you all so much for taking the time to enter!!! Watch the video below to find out who the winner is: ALLISON SURRENCY!!!!

March 18, 2009 - 3:54 pm

February 14, 2009 - 9:23 am

Tara - NFC/BT - Can't view your video for some reason, I'll check back later!

Love your tattoo! (haha no pun intended… lol) My friend Jeanne made me this beautiful handmade card in the shape of a dog bone with my dog's name on it when one of my beloved passed a couple of years ago, and I had Ralph, my tattoo guy, work the concept and Ozzie's name in her handwriting into a tattoo on my right foot. It's by far one of the most personal!
