Outfit of the Week

And then someone crashed the party. :)

Dress: Thrift Store, Cardigan: Express, Vest: Converse One Star, Boots: Steve Madden
Yes. It’s January, and I’m wearing boots and a skirt with no tights or leggings. Sometimes it’s nice to live in a place with one season!

And a little explanation since this is my first Outfit of the Week of 2013: I started doing outfit posts back when I was pregnant with Kingston. It was a personal challenge and a great reminder to not go down the “pregnant woman in yoga pants everyday” road. (I’m a big believer in look good, feel good.) And I enjoyed doing those posts so much that I kept it up after he was born. I like putting together the outfits, and Anderson takes most of the pictures. That’s a trip, I assure you. I’m not sure if I’ll continue doing these… we’ll see. But here are my 10 favorite outfit posts from 2012.

I’ve Stopped Counting

I think I’ve mentioned the crazy “month of celebration” that goes on here every year around this time. It starts with Kingston’s birthday at the beginning of December and ends with Anderson’s at the beginning of January. Mine is New Years Eve. Oh, and there’s that little December holiday sandwiched in their too. Whew! It always feels like such a time of overindulgence. And by the time we get to Anderson’s day we’re all a little partied out.

Anyway, we celebrated my birthday last weekend at some of my favorite restaurants (Orsay with my girlfriends, Cruisers with my boys, and a little Mexican place with my parents), because you know eating is my true hobby. We tried a new place too: Maple Street Biscuit Company. You locals should check it out. Anderson doesn’t really like biscuits. I know, he’s weird. But he loved this place. So there you go!

Maybe I’ll take him back tomorrow for his birthday! And then we’re all going to take a long nap.

The Fashionable ESQ - Hi again! If the holiday season is always hectic for those of us who don’t have birthdays shoved in there, I can’t begin to imagine the craziness level with you guys!

January 3, 2013 - 11:18 am

Annie - I knew we were soul sisters…eating is my true hobby too!

I think I need to come to Jacksonville for all these fine eateries! They sound so delish!!!!!

Happy Thursday! I hope you get a nap!

Color in Motion 5k

Let’s get some things straight first. I don’t consider myself a runner. I do run. (Actually it’s more of a jog.) But only so I can zip up my skinny jeans. Also, I despise every run until the last few yards when I start believing that I am indeed going to survive once again. And as a rule, I don’t like to pay to work out. I’d rather buy a new pair of shoes than a gym membership. So that’s why I never do organized runs. They usually cost at least as much as a monthly gym membership. And yes. I know they are almost always for charity, but I’d rather just send the charity a check than pay AND have to run. Does this make sense to anyone other than me?!?

Okay, I feel better now that I got that off my chest.

Now I can tell you about (my first 5k) the Color in Motion 5k without sounding like a fake “Oh, I love to run” kind of girl. Honestly it was such a blast! The whole event felt more like a block party than a race. It’s not even timed! That’s my kind of race, people. My friend Tara hung with me and kept me laughing the whole time even though I know she could have lapped me twice. Thanks Tara! We started out clean, but by the end of the race looked like sweaty smurfs. At each kilometer volunteers threw powdered color on us. And since holding your breath while running is NOT easy, our lungs were probably colorful too. If you’re not a competitive runner but want to try a 5K I totally recommend this one! Just make sure you bring an extra pair of pants, so you don’t have to drive home pants-less. Not that I know anything about that.

January 2, 2013 - 3:08 pm

pinkcoffeephoto - Marlena, Do not bring your camera out there! We both had our phones, but I left my camera in the car. We took a few pics in the parking lot afterwards though… naturally. :)

January 2, 2013 - 1:58 pm

Marlena - SO EXCITED! I need tips though. Did you bring the big camera for this or just use your iPhone? I’m scared to bring out the big guns.

January 2, 2013 - 12:04 pm

Tara Gearhart - So Fun!! The most fun was getting to hang with a good friend:) I’m ready for the next one:)

Hey 2013!

Every year we go to the beach at some point between Christmas and New Years Day. It started back when we were dating, because Anderson had just moved to Florida and couldn’t believe it was warm enough for the beach in December. This year we went on Christmas day on a total whim. We don’t have a lot of traditions, but this is one we (all 3!) really enjoy. It’s not a shabby way to spend the end of the year!

As we move into a new, fresh year my prayer for myself and my family is that we seize every opportunity God places before us to show his love to others. Sometimes the world around us can seem pretty ugly, and instead of making an effort to be a light in the darkness I find myself feeling a little bitter towards others. Maybe jaded is a better word. But I don’t want my son to grow up in that environment. I want him to see the good around him. When I was younger I often prayed that God would give me opportunities to show his love to others. But now I think that the opportunities are always there. It’s a matter of whether or not I have the eyes to see them and the selflessness to actually do something. I want to take the blinders off this year. And see the needs of others around me. AND be willing to get involved and get my hands dirty.

One thing I know for sure: when we ask God to disrupt our lives, it always gets interesting. So, here’s to an exciting 2013!

Also, this isn’t really relevant to the post, but seeing my hair in these pictures made me think of it. Growing out really thick, blunt bangs is the worst! Let this be a lesson, kids.

January 2, 2013 - 12:00 pm

annie - Love that y’all can go to the beach on Christmas! It’s so hard to find something to do here on Christmas and New Years. Everything inside is germy…and outside is frigid! I’d LOVE to be out in the fresh air at the beach! Great pictures!

Hope y’all had a wonderful Christmas!!!!

January 1, 2013 - 7:41 pm

Pops - Amen!!!

January 1, 2013 - 7:31 pm

Jamie - I read your blog all the time and feel like I know you! It’s been so encouraging seeing what God has done in your life. Keep posting! 2013 is gonna be a good one!

January 1, 2013 - 5:43 pm

momma - Sweet, beautiful family. I prayed the same prayer Lynds. And I love the yellow jeans. Happy, Happy 2013

January 1, 2013 - 3:23 pm

Jennifer - What a fun tradition! Looking forward to seeing how He keeps our lives interesting and exciting this year. Interesting is good, right? Oh- and btw, right about picture six I began coveting your bangs and wondering WHY I don’t have any. So there.

My Favorite Posts from 2012

We’ve been enjoying lots of down time over the last week. Mainly watching Kingston play with his new toys.
And wouldn’t you know this little (actually it’s HUGE) cardboard house is his favorite? Kids and boxes.

This weekend I read through my 2012 blog archives. And I thought it would be fun to list my favorite entries together in one post just in case you’re new here. Kind of an introduction to this blog. (Nice to meet you!) Or in case you just want to read them again.
