Who needs books?

Winter has finally made it to Florida. So for the last few weeks it’s been a little cold. Too cold to play outside. But staying in the house all day with a two-year-old is no fun. No fun at all! So we’re always looking for somewhere to go. Anderson likes taking Kingston to Barnes & Noble to play with the games, LEGOs, and Thomas the Train tracks. (Notice I didn’t mention books at all. I’m the book person in the family!) We go in the morning when there’s no one else there… except other bored parents with wild children. And while the boys are playing with trains I always go look for a book I think Kingston would enjoy (or maybe I’m hiding in a corner for 10 minutes with a fashion magazine). Anyway, I inevitably return to the scene below. What little boy wants to read a book with Mom when Dad starts LEGO fights? I don’t really blame him!

And of course we quickly and quietly pick all the toys up (with a good attitude) before we leave. And we never, ever cause a scene… at all.

Papa - That’s my boy!!!! Silly people – books are for girls. Let’s play!!!

The Miller Family

The Millers are such a cool family; beach bums in the truest sense. In fact, Josh shapes surfboards here in Atlantic Beach, so that felt like the perfect place for their photoshoot. We met up on a beautiful, windy afternoon and chased two of the most energetic, expressive, and sweetest little boys all over the place. My boys met up with us for dinner afterward, and we had the best time eating, laughing, and wrangling kids. These people are special, and I’m thankful to call them friends. Also, I’ve told Kingston more than a few times that Baby June, who he’s smitten with, is the only girl he’ll ever be allowed to date. I think we have an understanding.

PS – This crew also wins the award for best hair. Scroll a little, and you’ll agree!

Shio W. - This is amazing, you captured this family’s beauty!! Plus the colors and patterns are so pretty! I wish I lived closer to some awesome photographer’s like yourself! My family needs a good shoot like this, we’ve never had any family photos like this! You have amazing talent! :)

March 1, 2013 - 4:29 pm

pinkcoffeephoto - Jen, It’s on clearance now! Maybe your store sold out? Want me to send you one? :)

March 1, 2013 - 3:41 pm

Jen @ PPS - I’m still obsessed with that scarf – and my Target doens’t have them. Sigh. I’m with ya on being super happy that February is over. What a terrible month (or maybe just a terrible end of the month but it makes the whole month feel terrible)! Here’s to a fabulous March (and my Target getting that scarf!!)!! Have a lovely weekend.

Escape

This month has been hell. I mean, seriously. We’re dealing with a couple of BIG things plus a bunch of small ones piled on all at once. Isn’t that how it always happens though? I’m so ready to wave goodbye to February. So long, crappy month! Hopefully I can share more soon. You know, when we get through everything and can look back and say, “Oh, so that’s what God was up to!” But for now we’re just holding on. Anderson and I needed a little escape last week, so Grandma and Papa took Kingston for a night. And we got to go out. Like, on an actual date. Just the two of us! We saw a movie, had dinner, dessert, coffee and ended the night at Lowe’s. There’s nothing like drowning your sorrows in food and a new project. (I bought a giant piece of wood for a big re-do of our front entryway. It barely fit in my car, but thankfully Anderson is the Tetris King!) We ate at The Salty Fig, a new place in Riverside. I love their food truck but hadn’t tried the restaurant yet. Definitely recommend it! But my favorite part of the night (other than alone time with my man) was running into friends everywhere we went. While we were having dinner some of our favorite people showed up at the restaurant and were seated right behind us. Then we saw other friends at the coffee shop we went to after dinner. When I’m really dealing with hard stuff I like to hide. That’s how I cope. Just lock me in the house and don’t make me talk about it. But God knew we needed encouragement from friends, and I know he placed them in our path just for that. He really is the best!

Missy Douglass - LOL!!! I love the picture of Eddy the dinner creeper! The Foyes are awesome. February has been really tough on John and I…really, if I am honest…the past few months. Misery loves company, I guess. We are praying for you guys and you’re right…God knew that you all needed to see friendly faces and I am so glad you both got an evening out with some fun frivolity! Hope we see y’all soon!

February 28, 2013 - 2:13 pm

annie - I’m with you. So far, February can take it and shove it where the sun don’t shine. January too for that matter. I GIVE UP! I think that’s the point. When we are at our lowest, He’s there. He’s there at the highest too…but we don’t always ‘need him’. It’s at our lowest, we cry out more. Bless you sister. I’ll hide with you if you wanna run! ;) Because I”m ready! xoxoxo Praying! Love you girl!

February 28, 2013 - 2:00 pm

pinkcoffeephoto - Pops, That is SO RANDOM!!

February 28, 2013 - 1:51 pm

Poppa - OK, here is some Riverside trivia for you. What restaurant was originally housed in the building where the Salty Fig is now?

Give up? It was “Buddy Ezell’s Bar-B-Q”, circa 1977. There was a guy who worked there who looked just like the “dinner creeper.”

February 27, 2013 - 9:41 pm

KC @ genxfinance - Actually, I think he just wants to be in the picture.. lol :D But good thing you get to spend some time together and just the two of you. And what you are eating, yum!

February 27, 2013 - 2:44 pm

pinkcoffeephoto - Whit, I think I need to be more of a ventor. is that a word?! Thanks for being so sweet!!

February 27, 2013 - 1:08 pm

Whitney - Lyndsay – so I guess you knew EXACTLY how I felt when I probably vented too much to your simple question last Sunday. (Probably more than you wanted or needed) But unlike you I typically don’t hide but blurt out my problems in hopes I will feel better. February is over this week and I hope when it is over you are offered clarity to your struggles. :-) Thanks for being you and sharing your awesomeness with all of us!

February 27, 2013 - 12:43 pm

pinkcoffeephoto - Ha! Tracy, thanks for making me laugh!!! You totally called me out on that one. But it has some veggies too. :)

February 27, 2013 - 12:01 pm

Tracy - Hmmmm, is that a sophisticated mustard and cheese sandwich you are eating?

February 27, 2013 - 11:42 am

pinkcoffeephoto - I’m sorry, Tara! Ugh. I agree. And some salty stuff too? Praying for your fam!

February 27, 2013 - 11:32 am

Tara - Must be in the air. Weird month. I know too many people going through tough stuff right now, including us. I say we all crawl under a rock and hide together for a bit. No talking, just eating lots of sorrow-drowning chocolate. What do you say? :D Hugs and prayers.

February 27, 2013 - 11:05 am

pinkcoffeephoto - Jennifer, I swear we’re related! Heard you are totally sick. So sorry. Hope you feel better FAST!

February 27, 2013 - 10:53 am

Jennifer - Yep. I’m a hider too. So good on ya for not crawling in a hole! For finding escape around people when you’d rather be alone in your pain. How else can God redeem our suffering if we keep it all to ourselves? Oh, and I love those appointed run-ins, don’t you? Especially if they are sweet and stay at their own table.

February 27, 2013 - 10:39 am

pinkcoffeephoto - Tammy, So glad YOU were one of those people! Thanks for praying!

February 27, 2013 - 10:23 am

Tammy - Ahhh LOVE Salty Fig. We are similar in the way we cope…. “When I’m really dealing with hard stuff I like to hide.” God places people in our lives sometimes for just the very reason of being an encourager! Praise Him for placing those special people in your path just when you needed them! Praying for you my friend! Thank you for sharing….it encouraged me!

February 27, 2013 - 10:20 am

pinkcoffeephoto - Eddy, I agree. :)

February 27, 2013 - 10:19 am

Eddy Foye - Creepiest dinner creeper ever!

Arrow Stencil T-shirt

Arrows are everywhere right now in different colors and shapes. And I think I love them all! Last week I painted them onto shirts, dish towels, and baby burp cloths. I don’t even need burp cloths, but I found some in the back of Kingston’s closet and couldn’t resist! If you haven’t tried painting with freezer paper here’s an easy tutorial. For this shirt I just drew my own arrows for the stencil and painted them onto this T-shirt with Tulip soft fabric paint. It’s a fun addition to Kingston’s spring wardrobe. :)

Do you have any favorite freezer paper projects?

February 26, 2013 - 11:02 am

pinkcoffeephoto - Jen, Yes! You definitely should. Warning though… it gets addicting. :)

February 26, 2013 - 10:45 am

Jen @ PPS - Just read up on your freezer paper tutorial – that looks so easy! I should definitely try that.

February 26, 2013 - 8:22 am

pinkcoffeephoto - Hey Rachel! Thank you!!

February 25, 2013 - 5:46 pm

Rachel - Hi there – new follower! Cute blog, can’t wait to read more! Hope you have a great day! :)

pinkcoffeephoto - Thanks Annie! And I think we both need to make some for ourselves. :)

February 25, 2013 - 11:03 am

annie - Love these! I love arrows right now too!!!! I need to make some for Easton! Or for me! ;) I picked up a cute pack of clips at Target in the DOLLA HOLLA section that had arrows on them. They were so cute! Love the dish towel idea!
